Deciding upon engagement rings

Most men when it comes to any kind of shopping would rather it be done as quick and painless as possible. So when the decision comes to settle down and find that perfect ring it can, for some, be a gruelling process. For others they may take advantage of the ease and convenience of buying online and therefore use one of the many online jewellery retailers. This is perfectly acceptable, providing some basic rules are adhered to. Engagement rings are costly items, but if you look in the right places it can certainly shave pounds of the price tag. There are many online retailers offering hundreds of pounds of savings, but one has to look carefully at the items to try to establish what kind of quality the ring is. If you are unsure then it’s best to get the opinion of an expert, so ask the company if they have any in-house gemmologists or if they don’t ask to speak to someone senior who knows what they are talking about. Of course it can be very hard to establish if the ring is the right one for your intended purposes if you cannot actually see it. In this instance, find out if the company has any retail stores you can pay a visit to. Or you may decide right off the bat, that you are going to stick with a high street jeweller. These often will have a wide range of choices from diamond rings to emerald or tanzanite rings offering a more affordable price. Decide upon your budget, and try and stick to it. Typically they are supposed to cost anyway between 1 months and 3 months salary. But, of course this is only a guideline.

Also if the credit crunch, and buying engagement rings in the current economic climate, has got you worried about financing options, then fear not. As many online retailers will give you the opportunity of buying now and paying later, but before you enter such an agreement it’s always best to look at the fine print. Find out what the consequences are if you miss a repayment. Also check if the company you intend to buy from has a money back guarantee as these will vary from dealer to dealer. In terms of assessing the quality of your chosen ring, always get a professional gemmologist to independently examine it. They will be able to tell you more information about the gemstone and the quality of it, as well produce a certificate for you grading the gemstone according to set criteria. This usually costs extra, but is well worth the money. Finally, compare the price of your chosen item with other retailers. How does it compare? Can you find the exact same ring for a cheaper price online? It’s always worth checking. Also pay a visit to the famous Birmingham Jewellery Quarters and Hatton Gardens in London, to see what the jewellers there have on offer. Fantastic prices on engagement rings can be found even in the most exclusive of places. Once the hard part of finding that perfect ring is over, all that’s left to do is pop the question!
